75Hard: Week 1

Week 1 of 75Hard is complete! However, I realized not everyone is familiar with 75Hard so let me start by explaining what it entails.

75 days of:

  • A progress photo each day

  • Two 45 minute workouts each day and one must be outside

  • A gallon of water each day

  • Read 10 pages of a book each day

  • Follow a diet

  • No cheat meals or ALCOHOL

And if you miss any of these things, you start back at day one. In my opinion, it’s more of a mental challenge than it is a physical one. I’ve actually completed 75Hard once before a couple of years ago so I knew what I was getting myself into this time. I’ve got to say, it’s easier this time around because I prepared better and I didn’t push myself as hard with workouts; the first time I was pushing myself to the extreme so I burnt out quickly. This time, we are easing our way into things.

So, week 1. I took things slow and set myself up for success. I completed all my work outs in the morning which left me plenty of time in the evenings to focus on other things. Work outs consisted of a walk around the city, and yoga. The book I’m reading is 101 Essays That Will Change The Way You Think, and the “diet” I’m following is counting macros, which I’m very familiar with but wanted to get back into the habit of.

Now I’m sure some of you might be thinking, “Why in the world would you put yourself through this? Especially for a second time?!” and it’s because I needed a challenge to set the tone for the rest of the year. The reading is the easiest part for me because I do that every day anyways, but I needed to get back into a routine. I wanted to start getting up in the mornings and working out, I wanted to drink more water (my skin was begging for it), and if I’m going to give up alcohol for 365 days, I figured a challenge can help set the foundation for the first 75 days.

I also hired a coach to help me with my fitness goals, but we will talk more about that later. We started yesterday and I am already sore, but I feel good.

Ultimately week 1 has been easy and honestly fun because it’s new. The worst part is going to the bathroom all the time because of the water intake, oh and it’s getting cold in Texas so you better believe I am bundled up for my walks. Overall, a great start… we’ll see how I’m feelin’ in weeks 6, 7, 8 though 😅
