I promise I’m not saying this because it’s Lights, but I felt this so deep in my soul because I used to struggle with this SO. DAMN. MUCH. And quite frankly, I still do from time to time. I remember thinking back in high school I couldn’t listen to hardcore music and dress in color (so silly to think back on), I couldn’t hang out with one group of friends and also hang out with an entirely different group, I couldn’t be kind and strong, I couldn’t be pretty and smart, I wasn’t allowed to rest if I wanted to be successful.
I had a conversation with my therapist years ago about this and she asked me, “Why can’t you be pretty and smart and successful and still go out with your friends? Why?” And as I sat there, thinking, I realized it’s the pressure society puts on us, but also, the pressure we put on ourselves. I was putting myself in a box. And it was in that moment that I shattered that box and I remind myself all the damn time that I CAN BE ALL THE THINGS. I AM beautiful AND smart AND weird. I WILL wear whatever I want. I work hard AND play hard. I AM kind AND strong. I am ALLOWED to be social when I want and rest when I want… it’s called balance 😉
You can be WHOEVER you want WHENEVER you want. Wear what makes you feel confident and comfortable. Do ALL of the things that scare you AND bring you joy. BE AND DO AND EMBRACE everything that makes you, you! You have one life to live, make sure you live it to the fullest, for you.
